Green Star, Award-Winning, One Queen Street.
An insight into the construction behind Auckland’s most premier build to date.
A billion-dollar mixed-use commercial project—including the prestigious InterContinental Hotel, office blocks, and restaurants has now been completed for well over a year. Since its completion, the awards have not stopped rolling in.
Hanlon was fortunate enough to be selected as the plumbing subcontractor under LT McGuinness, working on this complex yet thoroughly rewarding project. The biggest challenge faced was the economic uncertainty within the construction industry, brought on by the global pandemic. Supply chain disruptions, increased material costs, and shortages in both materials and labour placed significant constraints on timelines and budgets. Despite these obstacles, the entire team remained adaptable and successfully delivered a project of the highest quality and standards.
Among the accolades received for the project’s design and construction is a 6 Star Green Star rating—a certification representing world leadership for projects of this scale. Achieving this prestigious rating involved a comprehensive process, from planning and design to on-site waste and procurement management, as well as extensive material reuse. It is the highest possible rating for a mixed-use office and hotel development. In addition, the Property Council has named it a finalist in four categories for the Property Council New Zealand Awards 2025.
Our plumbing team worked on this project for over three years, installing a large commercial plant room, bathrooms, commercial kitchens, and restaurant spaces. We followed intricate plans, rigorously tested systems, and ensured every element met the highest plumbing standards. From design to installation, our team was always ready to collaborate with stakeholders.
Working on this project has been a true pleasure and is one we proudly hold among our best achievements. Collaborating with stakeholders on a build of this magnitude provided valuable learning opportunities and affirmed Hanlon’s capabilities in commercial plumbing.
